]omparison of serum and plasma viral RNA measurements in primary and chronic human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection
Article Abstract:
Measuring HIV RNA in plasma or serum appears to give relatively similar counts. Blood plasma is blood with the blood cells removed and serum is plasma with fibrin removed. The level of HIV RNA in plasma or serum samples can predict disease progression and can also be used to monitor drug therapy. Researchers measured HIV RNA in 116 plasma and serum samples from five patients with primary HIV infection and three patients with chronic infection. Thirty-three samples were matched pairs. There was no significant difference between the RNA counts in plasma and serum.

Sexual behaviors and other HIV risk factors in circumcised and uncircumcised men in Uganda
Article Abstract:
Circumcision may protect men from HIV infection. In a study of 188 circumcised and 177 uncircumcised men in Uganda, differences in sex practices did not explain the higher risk of HIV infection in uncircumcised men.
